Walking and bicycle routes Sallandse Heuvelrug

Walking/cycling From the holiday home ‘The Woodpecker’ is a starting point for a hike or bike ride with crossings. Cycling route maps are available at the cottage. One of the highlights on the cycle route is the house of Palthetoren in the Sprengenberg district; in the past, the white tower was used as an observatory and contained a hunting dome.

The Holterberg Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park is a hilly area to which the Holterberg belongs. From the Holterberg there are opportunities for beautiful walks. The nature reserve contains heathland interspersed with (coniferous) forests.

Mountainbikeroutes Rijssen Holten

One of the most popular mountain bike routes (MTB) in the Netherlands. Wonderful loop with climbs and descents, a total of 18 km. The possibility to rent mountain bikes is the Bike Totaal Bloemendal, 700 meters from the starting point of the trail.

The total distance of the MTB route Holten is 29 km, which is significantly longer than the route from Rijssen. The advantage of this course compared to that of Rijssen is that there are many more flat sections in between, so there are more rest periods.

Markets On Friday afternoon, there will be a market for goods and consumption in Alten. On Saturday there is a large, diverse market in Rijssen.

The Holterberg Nature Museum has one of the largest collections of European animal species in the Netherlands and there are more than 1000 animals and birds to admire. A fun, educational journey.

On the other side of the Holterberg you are in Nijverdal and the Buitencentrum is located. There is information about flora and fauna. Also starting point for walks.
