Palaces and Gardens Diepenheim
The gardens of Diepenheim
The smallest town Twente
Diepenheim is a small town, the smallest town in Twente, with a lot to experience. Diepenheim has no less than six castles! and a watermill, ideal for a day trip.
There are special gardens around the castles. Diepenheim is located on the winding river Regge. On foot or by bike, as there are cycle paths along six castles: Weldam, Wegdam, Westerflier, Warmelo, Nijenhuis and Huis te Diepenheim.
Highlights Diepenheim
Warmelo Estate
The gardens are open to the public during the season. In summer, there are sand sculptures. Warmelo was the former residence of Princess Armgard, the mother of Prince Bernhard; she lived there until her death in the House of the 18th Century; the house is surrounded by historic gardens and a double moat.
Nijenhuis Estate Nijenhuis
has a long driveway that is not allowed for cars. The Nijenhuis is privately owned and therefore not open to the public. You can walk around the estate freely by bike and walking.
Schlosshaus in Diepenheim Large
house, but not accessible to visitors. Located near Warmelo Castle, it is therefore worth a look, but not as special as this castle.
Rosarium De Broenshof
Beautiful rose garden on the banks of the Regge. The Rosarium Broenshof is freely accessible every day. Open from April 1st to November 1st.

The Den Haller
watermill The Den Haller watermill is (presumably) the oldest surviving watermill in the Netherlands. The oldest known mention of the mill comes from 1169.De mill, which has the function of a grain mill through which grain and/or flour are ground. The mill is open to the public a few days a week. The mill is the center of several farms and houses. Diepenheim probably originated here. One of the farms is now a restaurant.
